HCG SIDE EFFECTS IN WOMEN

HCG acts like the luteinizing hormone (LH) in women as it assists the corpus luteum in releasing progesterone that is crucial in preparing the lining of the uterus of uterine for implantation. HCG is administered to induce ovulation and treat infertility in women.

HCG is also used "off label" to combat obesity as part of the protocol for the HCG Diet.

Caution: Before Taking HCG

DO NOT use HCG if you are:

  • Early or "Precocious" puberty
  • Pregnant
  • Breast feeding

HCG DOSAGE:

Normal dosage for a fertility treatment cycle is 5,000 - 10,000 USP units one day after the last dose of menotropins or follitropins. Ovulation usually occurs 36 hours after the injection. Women with luteal phase defect may also receive additional injections.

  • Pain at the injection site
  • Tenderness in the lower abdomen
  • Bloating and fluid retention
  • Headache
  • Irritability
  • Breast discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Multiple births

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS OF HCG:

After taking HCG, some women have developed a serious condition called Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrom (OHSS). OHSS may be a life-threatening condition characterized by severe stomach or pelvic pain, swelling of the hands and//or legs, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

  • Severe pain or swelling in the lower abdomen
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation
  • Rupture of existing ovarian cysts
  • Multiple births
  • Arterial thromboembolism
  • Fluid retention which must be monitored carefully in patients with cardiac or renal disease, migraines, epilepsy and asthma.
